A series of unbiased tests performed by the USRSA in the Physics laboratory of a leading University were used to produce a comparison of most of the major strings available today. In a rare comparison, the head to head test included natural gut and examples of all types of synthetics. PACIFIC Natural Gut won decisively against the very best competition in the world. The following information is extracted from that report: Raquet Tech of February 2002 The Official Puplication of the USRSA by Grawford Lindsey USRSA, USA and Professor Rod Cross, University of Sidney, USRSA Test method: • All strings (12.6 inches) were tensioned to 62 lbs/ 28,1 kg and allowed to sit for 1000 sec. (approx. 17 min.). • Then the string was hit 10 times with a force equivalent to hitting a 120 mph/193 kmh serve. PACIFIC remarks: • Stiffness: The values represent how much force is necessary to stretch each string 1 inch/2.5 cm when impacted. The lower the force, the better the playability, (ball feel and control, and playing comfort.) • Tension loss: All strings (12.6 inch lengths) were tensioned to 62 lbs and allowed to sit for 1000 seconds (almost 17 minutes.) Then the string was hit 10 times with a force equivalent to hitting a 120 miles/h 193 km/h serve. The tension loss represents the total amount of relaxation over both time and impact. The lower the loss - the longer the performance life.
