Great, Mikhail! 2010 Dubai Overview PACIFIC makes both Singles & Doubles Finals!
One of the most elite Events of the ATP World Tour Season is the: Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships. Each year the top players travel a long journey to get there, but this prestigious event is a rich reward for those selected players who are invited to participate. With #1 Roger Federer bowing out early due to illness, the field was seemingly wide open and looking advantageous for #2 Novak Djokovic to easily defend his 2009 Title at this years event.
PACIFIC X-Team Leader, Mikhail Youzhny entered the event Ranked #15 and has been ‘on fire’ so far in the 2010 season. Mikhail is also no stranger to making the Finals at this event – back in 2007 he lost to Federer in a very exciting Final.
As the players all need to leave Dubai quickly for the first round of Davis Cup, and then head quickly to the big USA ‘swing’ of back-to-back 1,000 Events, (Indian Wells & Miami) Dubai has the Finals a day early – or one would have thought!
As the Doubles Finals were completed without any delays on Friday evening – seeing PACIFIC RACQUET & STRING USER, Lukas Dlouhy (partnered with Leander Paes) unfortunately were defeated 6-2 / 6-3.
The Singles Final scheduled for Saturday, began under some unusual weather conditions for Dubai – rain! The Match did start, and had many delays, but eventually had to be postponed until Sunday. This rain delay came at a critical time for both Djokovic and Youzhny. The first set was a tightly contested battle – Mikhail had a couple of chances but could not capitalize – eventually dropping the first set 5-7.
Another rain delay caused the start of the second set to start later then usual, and Djokovic took advantage of this min-break to take a quick 2-0 lead. Then…the skies opened up and the rain poured!
Eventually the match was officially postponed until Sunday. Regaining his composure, Mikhail Youzhny with ‘freshly’ installed PACIFIC ‘Poly Gut Hybrid 17’, went onto even the sets with a 7-5 score.
Third set was not to be Mikhail’s, and eventually the defending champion Djokovic, went on to repeat his title with a 6-3 third set.
All in all, a fantastic week for PACIFIC! No longer is this only a Newsletter announcing our String & Grip successes on the ATP World Tour, but now PACIFIC takes on a new attitude of superiority having BOTH a racquet & strings, in BOTH the Singles & Doubles Finals at a major ATP World Tour Event!
Our Focus: #1 in Performance!
